Step 0: Prepare your documents before registering
Before logging in, gather the following:
- The lease agreement signed by all parties, in PDF format.
- The inventory of fixtures at move-in (if available).
- The EPC certificate for the property.
- Your electronic identity card or activated itsme app.
- The tenant’s contact details.
The landlord must complete the registration within two months of signing the contract. For more on late registration consequences: consequences of not registering a lease.
Step 1: Log in to MyMinfin
Go to myminfin.be and log in using:
- Itsme (the fastest method, 30 seconds).
- Belgian identity card + card reader.
- Official FPS token.
Navigate to the “Housing and my real estate” section in the main menu.
Step 2: Open MyRent and upload the contract
In the “Housing” section, click on MyRent. Then:
- Click “Register a new lease”.
- Select the contract type: primary residence lease, student lease, commercial lease, etc.
- Upload the signed contract in PDF format.
- Enter the monthly rent amount.
- Fill in the tenant’s details and the date of signing.
The system automatically detects the regional scheme based on the postal code.
Step 3: Attach the mandatory annexes
Before submitting, attach the required annexes:
- Inventory of fixtures at move-in (strongly recommended, sometimes mandatory).
- EPC certificate for the property.
- Rental guarantee deed if held by a bank.
- Any region-specific annexes.
These documents must be in PDF format.
Step 4: Submit and receive confirmation
Click “Submit”. The FPS Finance typically processes the request within 24 to 48 business hours. You will receive:
- An automatic confirmation receipt by email.
- An entry in your MyMinfin account with the official registration date.
- The option to download the registration document.
Keep this receipt in a safe place. To create a compliant lease before registration: create a lease online.
How to check if your lease is registered
Follow these 3 steps:
- Log in to myminfin.be with your identity card or itsme.
- Open the “Housing and my real estate” section.
- Check whether the lease appears with its official registration date.
If the lease does not appear, it has not been registered:
- If you are the tenant: register it yourself (free of charge, no landlord approval needed).
- If you are the landlord: regularise immediately to preserve your rights.
Where to register a lease (alternatives to MyRent)
In person — Registration offices
The FPS Finance registration offices still exist. Bring the original signed contract, your identity document, and the annexes. Processing times are longer (2-4 weeks).
By post — Registered mail
Send the file by registered mail to the relevant registration office. Slower, but legally valid.
For lease templates: lease agreement templates. For electronic signing: electronic lease signature.
